Dear Church Family,
Psalm 118:5-6 states “Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. With the Lord on my side I do not fear.” These have been distressing times indeed! And yet, here and now we find that the Lord sees us and answers the questions on our hearts and minds. He is on our side, protecting us from the grip that fear can have on our hearts. St. John is starting the hard conversations about how we to re-enter our building and when to have in person services.
As a state, many places are beginning to reopen. Through prayerful discernment and the collaboration of the St. John Re-Entry Taskforce, we have decided on a tentative re-opening date of June 21, 2020. By choosing this date, we give ourselves time to prepare the church building for reopening and gather needed supplies such as masks, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, and a new touchless hand sanitizer dispenser. The extra time allows us to make sure that we are doing all in our power to keep people safe.
This may seem to some of you like a long way out and to others like we are opening far too quickly. For those who are feeling more and more isolated as this time away from the church continues, we will be finding ways of being more connected in the coming weeks. For those who are in our vulnerable population and who are staying at home, we encourage you to prayerfully consider remaining at home for your own safety. Our goal as a church is to be there for our people and keep as many people as safe as possible.
In the coming weeks, we will be sending out more guidelines on what our church service will look like when we reopen. It will contain some changes, including the requirement that we all wear masks. But through all of this, we trust that God is with us and that He will give us the strength to care for each other and to do what needs to be done. If any of you have any questions, feel free to call me at 859-940-2501.
With many, many blessings and much love,
Pastor Amy Call
